Developing good eating habits is the key to improving our health. According to Yoga teachings, there are three leading causes of disease: stress, toxins, and bad eating habits. Here are some eating tips advised by Yoga Teachers to improve our health and lose weight.

1. Totally Digest Your Last Meal

Before eating again, make sure you fully digested your last meal and you are hungry. Yogis claim that we could quickly improve health just by waiting long enough to fully digest the food we ate before eating the next one.

2. Drink a Glass of Water When You Feel Hungry

We often feel false hunger when we smell or see our favorite food. Yogi’s good tip is to drink a glass of water as a checkpoint. If we still feel hungry after drinking water, then it means we are authentically hungry.

3. Eat Fresh, Organic, and Whole Foods Diet

Most processed and packaged foods are full of toxic substances like artificial preservatives that can affect your health. Yogis recommend eating a fresh, organic, whole-foods vegetarian diet. This will ensure we will avoid consuming toxic foods and develop good eating habits to improve our health.

4. Eat for Energy and Nutrition – Not for Taste

Clean, organic, and plain foods are the most vital and easily digestible. Yogis assure us that our taste for junk foods will go away fast if we just focus on eating healthy foods.

5. Eat Simple Meals

Yogi’s advice is to not mix cooked and raw foods in one meal. Try to keep it simple. It will be easier to digest and assimilate.

6. Drink Just Water

Water is the best option for the drink we can give to the body. It gives the best hydration and purification to our system. Let’s try to avoid drinking sugary soda which is proven not to be good for our health.

7. When You Eat – Focus Just on Eating

While eating, we often watch TV or are engaged in social media. It is crucial we focus just on eating and bring consciousness to our food. When we do that, the meal tastes better! We also tend to chew much slower, which helps with digestion and weight loss.

8. Eat the Last Meal At Least 2 hr Before Sleeping

It is recommended the last meal be at least 2 or 3 hours before going to bed. It is also important to note that evening meals should be light. If you eat too late, you will have a hard time falling asleep if you are hungry at night, drink a warm beverage.

9. Take a Break from Food – Fasting for Better Health and Weight Management

Yogis recommend fasting one day a week for improving metabolism and burning up toxins in the body. Science with multiple studies also suggests that fasting is extremely health beneficial. It promotes weight loss, longevity, cancer prevention, boosts brain function and productivity, and enhances heart health.
